Summary
Thanks him for the pamphlets. Hopes the institution of Sunday Schools will become more general as they are calculated to do good. Does not agree with "some ingenious writers" on the subjects of war and capital punishment. The moral law which binds all mankind is unchangeable, and if either had been forbidden by it, the "Divine Legislator" would never have countenanced war or death of criminals. It is not only lawful, but the duty of government to put murderers to death. There have been just and lawful wars, though it is certainly desirable that they should become less frequent. This can be effected by promoting Christianity and electing Christian leaders. Zeal against any and all wars is not a "Zeal according to Knowledge."
