- Summary
- Thanks him for J. Pickering's essay on Indian Languages of North America, and Mr. Quincy's address to the Peace Society. The latter places the objects of the society within proper limitations and indicates the best means to attain them. The remarks on standing armies are just; forts for the security of harbors, etc., should be garrisoned by regular troops under skillful officers. Also thanks him for various papers relating to missionary work. Charitable institutions have so multiplied that patrons now divide among many what was before allotted to a few. Those who manage the affairs of these institutions should not be discouraged but should take more care in the expenditure of funds. The school for "the Education in our Country of Heathen Youth" is excellent, and much good will come from it. Subscribes $20 annually for its benefit.
