- Summary
- In regard to settlement of accounts, Jay notes that he did wish to settle accounts immediately upon his return, but found that a bundle of vouchers had been left in New York. Sends Peter Augustus Jay with the papers, and hopes that the matter may soon be completed. The balance which remained in Jay's hands at the end of the negotiations in England was turned over to Pinckney for the use of the claims commissioners. The balance which Jay carried back to the United States will be paid into the treasury when the accounts are settled.
