- Summary
- Has sent John Jay's letter to Richard B. Lee as requested. The Administration still hopes to patch up matters with Great Britain. A declaration of war is talked of by many but both Houses are strongly against it. The true course for the interest of the country would be to repeal the non-importation act. The affair of Henry will rebound to the disgrace of the Administration. There is reason to believe he received $50,000 for the disclosure; many will think the President paid rather too much. Sends a copy of the message respecting Henry's disclosure.
