- Summary
- Congratulates Schuyler on events within his family, and hopes that he has a pleasant retirement from public concerns. Jay hopes to return in the spring of 1784, and at that time will retire from public life, unless there is a requirement for his continued services. He anticipated that there would be some complaints about the terms of peace; there always are a few who look on the dark side. In the eyes of Europe, America is most fortunate, and Jay is glad that a majority of the American people are in favor of the treaty.
