United States--History--Revolution, 1775-1783; Jay, John, 1745-1829
Summary:
Was pleased to learn they had concurred in the last election. After weighing the objections against each candidate, he found the greater number against Mr. Tomkins and therefore voted for Clinton. It is desirable that mutual satisfaction and confidence be restored between Lord Amherst and Mr. Van Alen; the latter would do well to avail himself of Van Schaack's judgment and prudence. Regrets the injury done to Van Schaack's best eye by a recent inflammation; if doctors advise the operation usual in such cases he might be restored to the blessing of sight, so numerous are instances of success. Is pleased to hear of the health of his brother. Hopes Benson and Van Schaack will visit him soon.
