- Summary
- As ship detained, will write a longer letter. Very surprised only one of his letters got through to Jay. Thanks for information on Mrs. White. Although could forgive her, does not believe reconciliation possible, after her treatment of the family. Major Lyons accounts still not ready. Work at the mill going well, for which John deserves credit. House almost built and dam done with care, although work slower than had hoped. Relations with John strained, believes he does not want his accounts examined. Major Lyons will marry soon; only then will his business stabilize. From an earlier letter: Mr. Van Horne received the balance due on the Jamaica bonds from Mr. Grant. Jay's portion of this is 400 pounds, of which Mrs. Jay received 395 pounds, the rest to remain in the account to keep it open. Stagg discharged judgment against him. King has paid his note. Mr. Kelly now has power of attorney for Jay's business in Vermont. Has just been to Albany and the lands in Washington County. Tenants willing to pay sum mentioned; only need a deed. Sally and Peter talking well for their age; William grows to be a fine boy.
