- Summary
- Peter Jay Munro has gone to Albany to oppose petitions to the Legislature from the manufacturing company at Mamaroneck. A committee was appointed to confer with Dr. Hobart on the affairs of the church; the latter would not recognize their authority and said he would take into consideration a written letter from them. The committee replied that a Christian bishop should have no objection to confer with members of his flock, and intend to make a written communication to the vestry at their next meeting. Encloses a pamphlet containing remarks on John Jay's letter to Jones. It is considered a feeble production and is attributed to Dr. Hobart. Peter Augustus Jay and Mr. Munro have examined the church charter and believe the right of voting for the vestry extends to all Episcopalians in the city.
