Summary
Sends him a pamphlet on the Tunis sheep. Has given up wine, cigars, and rich food for reasons of health for nearly six years. Speaks of the qualities of the sheep, which are healthy and will not break through stone walls unless they are hungry. Speltz is an excellent and useful grain, but fit only for horses unless shelled. General Armstrong has sent two quarts of an "extraordinary" rye from Paris, which Peters has distributed throughout the state. The second volume of his agricultural publication is nearly finished, and he is preparing a book on plaster. Has seen a newly invented micrometer to measure the filaments of wool. The inventor says overproduction of manufactured goods in England is turning the country to agriculture. Lord Wellesley has said he has proof of an offer from Bonaparte to divide this country with England at the request of the Spaniards.
