- Summary
- Regrets the afflictions mentioned in Jay's last letter and gives an account of illnesses in his own family. Discusses the properties and use of plaster and other fertilizers. John Jay is right in his estimate of the probable lack of success Peters will have in trying to bring into fashion a spirit of agricultural enquiry and improvement. The spirit of the times is to aim at immediate advantages, and it is in the nature of man to enjoy present benefits. Agrees with John Jay's view of the state of Europe, and that nothing like an "overturn" will happen during present times in America. "The little Tornado here, has really effected much good;" the minority profits from the division of the majority.
