Summary
Talks of the difference in properties of plaster and shells as fertilizer. His agricultural society will be obliged for any pertinent information which John Jay might be inclined to afford. He admires the latter's "Settled Plan of Life;" he himself strives for tranquillity but often finds the need for action: "I must have some Hobby Horse to ride." He is electrified by the Spanish opposition to the "Scourge of Europe;" a change in Europe must save us since we are too much divided and besotted to save ourselves. He still sits on the circuit court. The prosecution of a tavern keeper for raising troops for Burr's army is equal to "charging a Cannon to shoot a Mosquito." There is a change for the better in the state but whether the next election will result in a Federal victory is only probable.
