- Summary
- Has returned home after the death of her husband, Goldsborough Banyer. Trying not to dwell on what Providence has sent. Friends have been extremely supportive, including Mr. Henry and Mr. Van Schaack (Schaick). The old gentleman (Banyer's father) believes he should pay the family physician, Dr. Woodruff but none of the other bills that will have to be paid by his son's estate. Mr. Leroy wishes to make the estate as productive as possible so Maria can pay for her own expenses; her son's charges will go to his grandfather. Thanks for letting Nancy accompany her but regrets having missed Sally. Her daughter is thriving.
