- Family news. Alarm prevails respecting the safety of the city, and entrenchments are being thrown up at Brooklyn. There is great scarcity of money and stocks are low. The Bank of America and the Manufacturing Bank have not declared any dividend, therefore yielding only 4 1/2 per cent interest for the last year. Despite this the manner of living remains high. People are living on their capital and depend on the return of peace to repair the damages.
