- Summary
- It is now a month since Peter sailed for Bermuda and everyone is in daily expectation of hearing from him. John Jay was supposed to visit her this winter but the snow descends too far south. Nancy has written every week, and William wrote last month that he will enter college in a few days. Old Mr. Rutherford and his 17-year old granddaughter Catherine both died. Mrs. Constable and Enretta(?) have been to visit and are going to Schenectady. Has heard that Peter's friend Mr. Murray is to marry Miss Barclay. Nancy Watts married Mr. Kearny. Jerome Bonaparte married Miss Paterson of Baltimore. Mrs. Chancellor Lansing would like a lime-tree from the West Indies, and Mr. Banyar some sweetmeats. New York has been very gay during the winter, especially General Schuyler, with dinners and parties. Ledyard was asked to apply (for office?) but was turned down because he is a Federalist.
