- Summary
- Letterbook copy. The States-General, in fear of a prorogation, assembled in a church after the door to their chamber was barred by order of the King. The party of the nobles, lead by the Queen, Count d'Artois and Prince de Conde, used this action as a means to convince the King that his seance royale should be delayed. The King is received sullenly by the people when he is in public, but Necker continues in favor. A run on the caisse d'escompte noted. Bishop of Paris's carriage was stoned and he in fright promised to join the third estate.
