- Summary
- At Hamilton's suggestion, applied to John Jay for post as John Jay's secretary on London mission. At first John Jay inclined to appoint him, then changed mind and decided John Trumbull would be better choice because of English connections. Bayard delivered letter proposing post to Trumbull. Trumbull expressed doubts about his usefulness to mission. Bayard suggests that Hamilton propose to John Jay that both Bayard and Trumbull accompany him to London.
