- Summary
- The treaty between Austria and Naples make probable a war with them against France. The Turkish Empire has also declared war after the invasion of Egypt and Nelson's subsequent victory. Bonaparte's hopes of success must rest on expectations other than the Directory, since the latter has been disposed of by him. French influence continues active in the United States, and much will depend on the present session of Congress, about which Jay has apprehensions. News of the health of Ames, Benson, Hobart, and Schuyler.
