Summary:
"Proofs that the Colonies do not aim at Independence." Autograph Document in Jay's hand listing and summarizing actions by the Continental Congress. 18 May-8 July 1775, proving that the colonies and their representatives seek "a total Separation from Great Britain." Jay gives page numbers corresponding to the print edition of the Congressional Journals published by Bradford in Philadelphia in December 1775. If Jay prepared these citations in reaction to the King's speech of 26 October 1775, then the paper was drafted after 7 January 1776 when news of that speech reached Philadelphia.
