- The committee met with Allan Jarrat in the presence of Mr. Alexander, Surveyor General of the Province of New Jersey, and Dr. Johnson, one of the Commissioners for New Jersey, and examined a journal which showed that observations made with Jarrat's quadrant varied upwards of four minutes. Jarrat declared that the only way he could take an accurate latitude would be with an accurate quadrant of five or six feet radius. He also stated that the tripartite indentures were inaccurate. The committee recommended that Jarrat certify that the station pretended to be fixed at Fishkill is wrong, and that all further proceedings cease until an accurate quadrant could be procured. >From the Secretary's Office, New York.
