Summary
Having received from the Court at Newcastle in Delaware a report and examinations made 10 January 1674 concerning a rape allegedly committed within the court's jurisdiction on Ann Jurians by Sybrant Johnston and his accomplices, and because all of part of the criminals are in prison, Andros, in the name of the King, appoints Hans Block, John Moll, Foppe Outhout, Joseph Chew, and Derick Alberts Justices of the Court of Newcastle, and Peter Cock, Peter Zambo, Izrael Holme, Laes Audriesen and Wooll Swain Justices of Upland Court and Delaware River. Any seven of those named, and three from each court are to meet at Newcastle at least once a week beginning as soon as possible to be a Court of Oyer and Terminer, to hear, try, judge and put into execution according to law their judgment. Due process of the law is to be followed, a jury provided, and the prisoners secured and brought before the court. All witnesses are to be ready when called by the court.
