- Summary
- John Jay hopes that Thomson will write an account of the "Rise, Conduct, and Conclusion of the Revolution" for posterity. It need not be full of minute details, which can be left to "voluminous Historians." Thomson should rather concentrate on the political story, which will be most liable to misinterpretations, and future Relations of it will probably be replete both with intentional & accidental Errors." It would probably be "improper" for Thomson to let it be known that he was at work on such a history, or to have it published during his lifetime.
