- Summary
- Acknowledges receipt of 17 June. Amherst's idea of appointing another agent to care for his land in America does not "surprize" John Jay, for Amherst's affairs appear to have been strangely mismanaged by Evert Van Alen. However, John Jay is convinced that Van Schaack is in no way to blame for Van Alen's failings. John Jay himself rarely goes to town, and does not know any persons who might be qualified for the position. He thinks that Rufus King will be in a better position to recommend someone to Lord Amherst.
