Summary
Acknowledges receipt of 27 September. John Jay has been unsuccessful so far in obtaining information about Lord Amherst's lands from members of the legislature who live near them because the legislature is still in session. However, General Schuyler will be pleased to be of use to Lord Amherst in the matter. John Jay encloses a copy of a letter to Schuyler dated 12 April concerning the surveying of Lord Amherst's land, and the recommendation of a suitable agent to His Lordship. John Jay will communicate Schuyler's reply to Lord Amherst as soon as he receives it. John Jay points out that in America the rents for rural lands do not yet bear any relationship to their value. These disproportionately low rents will probably continue until the wilderness has been settled.
