- Summary
- Received Troup's of the 5th. Refers Troup to John Jay's letter to Hoffman to avoid repetition of news. Towards Hoffman, feelings of friendliness since infancy but when feelings in conflict with official duties, these must prevail. An Attrny General must not be subject to creditors: his affairs should be soon settled. Cannot ascertain what interference Hoffman had with Counsels of Appointment; general belief of it exists but John Jay never suspected motivated by hostility to himself. Hoffman
