Summary
Received Grand's of 8 Feb; congratulates Grand on birth of grandson. Has accepted office Congress offered him, will be obliged for intelligence as might be useful. As public man as well as private man, gives Jay pleasure to recall Grand's friendly attentions. Resignation of Morris a great loss to this country, hopes finance department will become properly arranged. Jay prefers single superintendent per department to twenty able directors in each; only advantage to having three men manage Treasury is the trust and confidence "our jealous Republicans" will afford three instead of one manager. Has taken house in New York for a year. Family well, baby fat. Jay's last to Grand enclosed a letter from Willinks to brother Jay informing him that John Jay's Bill on Grand for 200L was refused.
