Jay forwards letter of Council of Safety (signed Peter Van Cortlandt) to GeneralPutnam, in which the Council states it is greatly irritated that a measure soreprehensible as the evacuation of Ticonderoga should be imputed to General Schuyler in whom they have the greatest confidence. Jay's covering letter toSchuyler assures the General of his friendship and belief in his integrity.
