- Had asked Dr. Jones to ask Jay about rumors that he (Colden) and others underconfinement here were to be imprisoned on board a ship. The sheriff has sent amessenger who just warned Colden that he would have to be ready to board a shipin an hour's time. Since Colden has never been informed of the charges againsthim, he asks that Jay and other members of the Council of Safety allow him toremain in Kingston until he can explain his position to state authorities.
