Summary
Conference with Grenville on 27 June. General discussion of points of difference. Grenville had received no reports of captures under the Instructions of November; asked for report of "strongest" such cases from John Jay. Pinckney had not such reports at hand. Mr. Crafts of Boston furnished John Jay with the case of the Charlotte (Appeal on case enclosed), dated 2 July 1794. John Jay has no statements of the pretexts for seizures in cases forwarded to him. Audience with King and Queen. John Jay's present object, not formal discussions-"To accommodate rather than to convict or convince". In conversations with British, has learned that England does not want war with U.S. and that conduct of U.S. Government has been praised.
