- He is surprised that Stuyvesant has displaced his two sons from sitting in the church pew. As he gave Stuyvesant permission to sit in the pew during the lifetime of the writer's father, he cannot understand such an action being taken without notice to him. The two boys will continue to occupy the pew until he has determined Mr. Reade's power to assign it to Stuyvesant.[Salutation is "Dear Cousin"]
