Summary
General Washington is going to cross the North River to Jersey tomorrow with three brigades illy clothed. They are fatigued and it would be idle now to attempt an attack on the enemy. We do not have the proper officers and the severe toil keeps men from enlisting. McDougall trembles for the consequences. The highlands should be guarded. Has lost his oldest son to the enemy. Wants Jay to write to Congress to help free his other son.
