- Summary
- Is glad he has undertaken the work mentioned in his letter of 17 January; would help him were it not for the state of his health. Jay's knowledge of important events before 1774 is not specific since he was occupied with his profession until that time. The difficulty of collecting materials will increase with time; many things have already been written and said which are not correct. Valuable materials exist in the office of the Secretary of State, in the public and private journals of Congress, and among the papers of the several states. No good history has or can be produced in haste. Hopes Morse can visit him so they can converse on these topics.
