- Lee distressed that Congress has put a negative on his request to avail himself of the friendship of Captain Tolty and Sir Henry Clinton. Had no idea that drawing money from New York would be detrimental to the continent since Congress will ha veto pay him if his property is confiscated. Removed the money in an open manner. If Congress will not indulge this need, then they will be under necessity to grant him the sum which he needs. Reduced from an income of 1000 pounds a year to nothing.
