- Summary
- The evacuation of Ticonderoga is censured by the people and Schuyler and other generals are not above criticism by them. Schuyler must defend himself against his enemies and the general indignation and disappointment which the people feel on this occasion. A general statement of his conduct on this occasion should be written which will serve as a defense though it should not be written as a defense. Jay believes a certain gentleman in the council to be Schuyler's enemy and cautions that Schuyler's. letter must contain nothing to aid his enemies. Schuyler's letter to General Washington seem to have been inspected.
