Summary
Schuyler's of 24th received. His enclosure (St. Clair letter) sent to press .Hopes only temporary injury to Schuyler by his being linked to evacuation of Ticonderoga. The Council supports Schuyler. St. Clair's letter should remove all doubts concerning Schuyler. It is a strong argument for his honesty that Schuyler is willing to submit to an inquiry into his conduct but it might not be in keeping with the dignity of his station. He can defend his conduct in the inquiry into the business at Ticonderoga.
