Abstract
Early experiences as mother of boys with hemophilia; diagnosis and treatment of her children at that time; advent of treatment with blood plasma; training as a lab technician and learning to infuse her children herself; difficulties in getting schools to admit boys with hemophilia; stigmatization by physicians for infusing the children herself; frequent re-locations due to husband's employment and consequent difficulties finding new caregivers; involvement in Los Angeles with Dr. Shelby Dietrich and consequent switch from cryoprecipitate to concentrated factor; difficulties associated with getting boys into activities such as Boy Scouts; education of a friend with hemophilic sons to transfuse them; maternal guilt and other emotions associated with hemophilic children; early "remedies" such as tea packs and peanut butter; financial aspects of caring for children with hemophilia, lack of medicinal insurance, etc.; "good Samaritan" stories associated with hemophilia care; sons' abilities to entertain themselves as children in light of limited participation in sports, etc.; sons' desire to maintain privacy regarding their hemophilia; involvement in the Board of the local hemophilia foundation
