- Summary
- The convention adjourned last Saturday, and the new constitution will be in the newspapers. Many democrats were dissatisfied with it but did not dare to separate from their party. Thinks its chief defects are universal suffrage, rendering dependent the judges of the Supreme Court, and vesting almost all powers of appointment in the Legislature. A passion for universal suffrage is pervading the Union; when those who possess no property are more numerous than those who have it the consequences will be severely felt. Family news. The new houses in Walker Street are being roofed.
