Abstract
This transcript records the events of a meeting held on May 4, 1968 about the considerations of undertaking an oral history project to document the 1968 student protests at Columbia University. Attendees include: Louis M. Starr and Elizabeth Mason of the Oral History Research Office; John D. Cannon, chaplain; Professors James P. Shenton, Robert M. Fogelson, David J. Rothman, and Bruce L. Smith; and Gordon J. Slovut, John A. Roberts, Chet di Mauro, and Ms. Krieger. The conversation includes practicalities of starting the project, as well as theoretical aspects of oral history, such as the issue of taking interviews so soon after events being documented.
