- Abstract: Carnegie Corporation of New York sponsored the construction of the New York Academy of Medicine building on 5th Avenue and 105th Street. It became the first notable building in New York City erected with the Carnegie Corporation's funds.

- Abstract: Colonel James Anderson opened his own private library in Allegheny, Pennsylvania to factory workers, such as young Andrew Carnegie. He became a life-long inspiration for Andrew, who viewed public libraries as the cornerstone of education and self-imp rovement. In 1904 Andrew Carnegie donated this bust to the Allegheny Free Library.
